Our story

Before they met, co-founders Sheldon and Hannah started painting businesses to put themselves through university, running separate operations in Owen Sound and Ottawa. A decade later, they stepped back into the thick of it by launching Sienna Painting in Toronto, Ontario.

Friends for years and now partners, Sheldon and Hannah believe that spaces should celebrate the individuals who exist in them. A purposeful environment can and should be beautiful, whatever beautiful means to the people who inhabit that space.

Whether residential or commercial, we’re here to invigorate spaces to reflect the visions of our clients, be it as a peaceful sanctuary full of warm and cool neutrals or riotous with colour. Your space should celebrate you.

Why "Sienna"?

Some fun trivia! Sienna is most commonly known as a pigment in fine art paints and, in its various forms and hues, has been in use for milenia, think: cave paintings. The pigment, historically, was made from clay where iron ore or ferric oxide occur naturally.

Ranging from a terracotta red-orange to a more sunset-y yellow-brown, the sienna colour is considered an earth tone and before synthetic pigments were developed, was named for where it was made in Siena, Italy. The pigment is featured heavily in Renaissance paintings and is still a favourite of fine artists today.

When it came to choosing a name for our painting company, we wanted a brand that would reflect the way we feel about homes and spaces that support the people in them: warm, strong, timeless, refined, comforting.

Sienna.

Our team

We believe that happy, supported personnel make for happy, supported clientele. At Sienna, we care about our team and creating a structured, empowered work environment to ensure we're putting our best foot forward.

Sheldon Morris-Rainford

Sheldon has been involved in the paint industry for over a decade, helping hundreds of clients beautify their spaces, whether at home or in a commercial space.

Born in Toronto, Sheldon spent the majority of his childhood north of the city in Grey County, before returning as an adult. He opened and operated a painting business while in university and has been enmeshed in the industry since!

Sheldon took a short break from painting and spent two years as a sales representative at Benjamin Moore, one of the top paint brands in North America, where he gained a comprehensive knowledge of interior and exterior coatings.

He missed being an entrepreneur and knew that with all he’d learned from Benjamin Moore, he would be that much better suited to serve clients than ever before. That’s when he started discussions about stepping back into the painting service world and launched Sienna Painting with his partner, Hannah Kilby.

Sheldon is excited to be back on this side of the industry, meeting with clients and transforming spaces one paint job at a time.

Hannah Kilby

Hannah has been an artist her whole life, but put herself through university by operating a residential and commercial painting business. It’s there where she befriended her eventual partner and Sienna Painting co-founder, Sheldon.

Originally from Ottawa, Hannah now resides happily in Toronto. Her role within Sienna is slightly more behind the scenes as head of marketing and accounting, however if you've received an email from us, it's likely from Hannah. Additionally she executes the mural division of the company.

Besides her time with Sienna, Hannah is a professional fine artist and operates her studio, where she fills custom oil painting and print orders for her clients.
